Klip-Lok Roof Sheets: The Solution for Low Pitch Roofs

Updated: May 30, 2023

As a homeowner, I'm always on the lookout for durable and long-lasting materials to use in my home. Recently, I came across Klip Lok metal roof sheets and was intrigued by their unique features. In this article, I will share what I have learned about Klip-Lok roof sheets, their uses, limitations, and pros and cons. Don't forget to check out our Buyers Guides where you can compare the different gutter profiles and more.

What is Klip Lok?

This is an image of 2 roofers installing a Klip Lok Roof with Permastop as the Sarking. It has a Safety Rail and Roof Safety mesh installed on the job.

Klip-Lok is a metal roof sheet profile that is made to order with set dimensions but can be produced in almost any length. The Klip Lok roof sheet has an effective cover of 700mm and a rib height of 41mm. Each sheet has 4 ribs and can be used on roofs with a pitch as low as 1-degree. One of the main features of Klip-Lok roof sheets is their use of concealed clips to fasten to roof battens, providing a sleek and seamless look. Kliplok roof sheets are made by Lysaght while their sister sheet called Speed Deck Ultra is made by Stramit. Both roof sheets share similar properties.

Kliplok Roof Sheet Uses:

Kliplok roof sheets are suitable for a variety of commercial and residential roofing applications. They are often used in large industrial buildings, warehouses, and residential homes. These roof sheets are also ideal for roofing projects that require a low pitch. One of the significant advantages of Kliplok roof sheets is their ease of installation. The concealed clips used to fasten the sheets to the roof battens make the installation process much more straightforward and faster than other traditional roofing systems. If you are not sure which roof sheet you may require for you next project you can always check out our Metal Roof Sheet Buyers Guide where you can easily compare the differences between the different metal roof sheet profiles as well as some handy hints as to where & how to purchase.

What are the limitations of Klip Lok Roof Sheets?

This is an image of a Klip Lok (Speed Deck Ultra) roof. There is a dry pan that has been installed to ensure the roof penetration wont leak or block the sheet pans.

While Klip-Lok roof sheets have many benefits, they also have some limitations. One of the limitations is that roof penetrations may require additional lashings in the form of a dry pan to avoid blocking the sheet's pans. Another possible limitation is if the roof pitch is less than 1 degree, additional waterproofing measures must be taken to prevent water ingress. To add to the list of Klip-Lok roof sheets' limitations we can't leave out their suitability for high-wind areas. While these roof sheets are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, they may not be the best option for areas with high wind loads as additional fixing requirements may be needed. Corrugated roof panels are available in assorted materials and BMTs (base metal thicknesses), thus a complete technical spec and minimum requirement list isn't provided. We persistently advocate enlisting a licensed roofing expert for product installations. We've compiled a top 5 local roofers directory, thoroughly verified via our Screening & Selection Criteria.

Pros and Cons:

Like any roofing system, Klip-Lok roof sheets have both advantages and disadvantages. Here are some of the pros and cons:

Pros:

  • Easy and quick installation

  • Suitable for low pitch roofs

  • Concealed clips provide a seamless finish

  • Durable and long-lasting

  • Made-to-order, with any length available

Cons:

  • Not suitable for roofs with a pitch greater than 5 degrees

  • Additional waterproofing measures needed for roofs with a pitch less than 1 degree

  • May not be suitable for high wind areas

  • Klip Lok roof sheets are prone to denting, which can be a concern in high-traffic areas.

Conclusion:

Klip-Lok metal roof sheets are an excellent roofing option for many commercial and residential applications. They are durable, long-lasting, and easy to install. However, they do have some limitations, such as their suitability for high wind areas and certain roof pitches. By weighing the pros and cons, homeowners and contractors can determine if Klip-Lok roof sheets are the right choice for their roofing project.
